Shockwave FAQ

Banshee Shockwave

Q:Do I need a relay for my Banshee Horn?

A:No, there is a relay inside the horn that switches the current to it so no external relay is required. The Banshee horn places no extra load on the motorcycle wiring at all.

Q:What is each color wire for? Please describe?

A:Red – Batt (+) Black – Batt (-)
Blue x 2 – connect to the 2 wires that went to the stock horn. It does not matter which way around these are connected. What is important is that the Banshee horn needs to see 12 volts across the 2 blue wires to trigger it to sound. If you have only 1 wire on the stock horn then connect one of the blue wires to this and connect the other blue wire to ground. Yellow – this is a (+) output that connects to the high beam light. If not using it make sure you tape up the yellow wire so it cannot short to the frame.

Q:The horn is installed, but there's no sound?

A:Check these things in sequence:

1). Check that all the wires are connected per the instructions
2). The fuse in the base of the Banshee horn, replace if bad and retry
3). The ground to the Banshee horn. Test by running a temporary ground wire directly to the battery.
4). Re connect the stock horn and check if that works. If not you have a wiring fault in the motorcycle.
5). If you have a multimeter check for 12 volts across the red and black wire at the Banshee horn. Then check that you have 12 volts across the 2 blue wires at the Banshee horn when pressing the horn button with the key turned on.
6). If the above does not fix the problem then contact us for support.

Q: Where is the best place for the blue wires to be placed?

A:Connect to the 2 wires that went to the stock horn. It does not matter which way around these are connected. What is important is that the Banshee horn needs to see 12 volts across the 2 blue wires to trigger it to sound. If you have only 1 wire on the stock horn then connect one of the blue wires to this and connect the other blue wire to ground.

Q:Why does the horn sometimes go off on it's own?

A:If the Banshee horn occasionally “toots” when you are not pressing the horn button check to see if you ran the wires close to the spark plug leads or coils. This will induce surges into the Banshee horn which can cause it to trigger. Its best to keep the Banshee horn wiring at least 4 inches from the plug leads or coils.

Q:Where is the best place to install my Banshee?

A:On your motorcycle – lol! You can often install in place of the stock horn but sometimes there is not enough space for this. Find a location that is at least 6 inches from the exhaust and not mounted directly to the engine, especially if the engine is rubber mounted or has significant vibration (E.g. Harleys or other big twins). We have 3 different mounting brackets available that will help easily secure the horn to an existing bolt somewhere. Mount the horn as close to vertical as possible but some angle is okay. Do not mount is such a way that the horn trumpet is facing forward where is can have rain water forced into it.

Q:How long will the installation take?

A:It depends on where it is mounted but usually 1-2 hours.

Q:Is the Banshee waterproof?

A:Yes, it is waterproof as it’s the only air horn that has been specifically designed for motorcycles. But that does not mean it is submersible, it shouldn’t go underwater.

Q:Does the Banshee horn come with a warranty?

A:Yes, it has a 12 months full warranty. Obviously, incorrect wiring up and physical abuse do void this warranty. Also, mounting the horn on the engine or too close to the exhaust, will likewise void the warranty.

Q:Is there technical support for the installation?

A:Yes, please call the number on this site, but only after you have followed the troubleshooting steps in this FAQ.

Q:Could my dealer or shop install the Banshee horn?

A:In most cases, the rider does install the Banshee with no challenges. But if there is a need for a certain placement of the horn, a quailed motorcycle mechanic can help.

Q:How would I register my horn for the warranty coverage?

A:In each box the Banshee horn comes with a warranty card. The card has a specific online address where you can register your horn. Please be sure to register your information.
