Questions & Answers

Mini Banshee

Q:Once the Mini is hooked up to my bike it sounds weak, not loud enough. Off the bike it's very loud!

A:This is a common challenge on certain OEM horn brackets. Over tightening the nut with the bracket will lightly suppress the back of the horn. This will constrict the inner working of the horn. If this happens, simply place a 1/4" flat washer on the horn. Then mount the horn with the washer to the OEM bracket, tighten with the nut accordingly.

Q:Will the Mini Banshee fit on all motorcycles?

A:Yes. As long as your motorcycle has a horn system the Mini Banshee will work! The motorcycle will need a normal 12 volt electrical system but all road bikes have this.

Q:Is there a warranty on the Mini Banshee?

A:Yes. We offer an industry leading 2 year manufacturer's warranty on the Mini Banshee. This covers normal wear and tear as well as any manufacturing defects. All warranties are only valid upon online registration at the time of purchase. The customer is responsible for shipping the unit back to us for warranty replacement and Screaming Banshee will pay to ship the unit back to the customer if they are located in the lower 48 US States. Please contact us before sending your unit back for warranty replacement.

Q:Will the Mini Banshee fit on a Harley Davidson?

A:Yes! We recommend the Mini Banshee horn on all Harley Davidson bikes up to the model year of 2016. The Mini will fit easily under the OEM bike cover on all models.

Q: How Loud is the Mini Banshee?

A:The Mini Banshee is rated at 126 dBl.

Shockwave

Q:Does the new Shockwave still have two volume levels like the previous model?

A:Yes. The Shockwave modulates its air horn to provide 2 volume levels – Friendly / Angry. But now we do it with one horn instead of two. It works exactly the same as the previous model but we modulate the horn to provide two volumes levels - so it’s like 2 horns in one. Fitting it in place of the stock horn makes the installation way easier and faster, that’s why we designed it this way.

Q:Where do I mount the Shockwave horn?

A:The Shockwave is designed to replace the original (stock) horn in most cases. Fitting it in place of the stock horn makes the installation way easier and faster, that’s why we designed it this way.Note: This differs from the previous Screaming Banshee horn which needed a separate location as it was used in conjunction with the stock horn. Mount it as close to vertical as possible, in a position where it won’t have either falling or wind-forced rain driven into the trumpet mouth.

Q:Does the new Shockwave still pulse the High Beams like the previous model?

A:Yes. The Shockwave has an output to connect to the High beam just like the previous model. Instead of the High Beams, you can connect it to driving or LED lighting if you wish. Maximum wattage is 100. However, you do not have to connect the headlight flashing feature if you prefer not to.

Q:How long does it take before the Shockwave reaches full volume?

A:0.00 or 0.15 seconds. When you press the horn switch briefly, the Shockwave can be set to provide a “friendly” toot of around 100 decibels. When you press and hold the horn switch for 0.15 second or more, then the Shockwave jumps to full volume of over 123 decibels and continues for as long as you hold the horn switch. On the control unit there is a small switch that allows you to set the delay either to (instant) 0.00 or 0.15 seconds before the Shockwave produces full volume output.

Q:Can I have full volume instantly?

A:Yes. You can set the switch on the Shockwave to produce its full 130+ decibels instantly if you wish.

Q:How loud is the Shockwave Horn?

A:130+ dB! You can hear it 3 blocks away! Remember the Shockwave Horn system also pulses the High Beam lights so you should get the attention of people that are hard of hearing too!

Q:Will the Shockwave work on all Motorcycles?

A:Yes. As long as your motorcycle has a horn system the Shockwave will work! The motorcycle will need a normal 12 volt electrical system but all road bikes have this.

Q:Will the Shockwave work on cars?

A:Yes. The Shockwave Horn system can be fitted to all cars with a standard 12 volt electrical system. Note: there are a very small percentage of cars / trucks with a 24 volt electrical system; the Shockwave is not compatible with these vehicles. If your car or truck has one battery then it has a 12 volt electrical system, and the Shockwave will work just fine.

Q:Can I mount the Shockwave to my engine?

A:No. The Shockwave, like almost all other horns, is designed to be mounted to the frame of the motorcycle or to sturdy bodywork that won’t allow excessive vibration.

Q:What are the dimensions of the Shockwave unit?

A:L 3.7" x W 3.0" x H 4.9" (94mm x 76mm x 125mm)

Q:How much does the Shockwave weigh?

A:Less than 22 Ounces (625 grams)

Q:Do I need a Mounting Bracket?

A:Possibly. We have 3 different brackets available but there is a good chance you won’t need any. The Shockwave is designed to replace the original (stock) horn in most cases. If so you will use the original horn location and so won’t need a bracket. See the accessory section on our website for brackets in case you need one. We don’t have a list of which brackets suit particular motorcycles/scooters at this time. We suggest looking at the dimensions of the Shockwave before ordering and determining if you need a bracket, and if so, which one will work best for your bike.

Q:Will the Shockwave Horn system have any effect on my electrical system?

A:No. We have installed our systems on all kinds of motorcycles, scooters, and cars, including sports cars and smart cars. We have never had a report of damage to any vehicle wiring system. Our air horn does draw 25 amps (in short bursts),but that power is taken directly from the battery, completely bypassing the vehicles electrical system.

Q:Does it have a fuse built in?

A:Yes. There is a small fuse set into the side of the housing. No external fuse is therefore required. It is a common automotive fuse called a "Micro2 Blade Fuse" and only a 25 amp type should be used.

Q:I have a sport bike with not much room; can I still fit the system?

A:Very Likely. The Shockwave Horn is the smallest air horn on the market. Also there are no relays or external control units needed so installation is much easier with the Shockwave than any other air horn on the market. If you have an issue, let us know and we will try to come up with an easy solution for you.

Q:If I don't want to fit the Shockwavehorn myself, how much would it cost for a shop to fit?

A:It depends on the shop. We supply all the parts you will need, so if you want to get a shop to fit the Shockwavehorn it will just cost their labor charge. Usually the installation takes under an hour, sometimes at little as 10-15 minutes. The final cost will depend on your shops hourly rate.

Q:Will you ship the Shockwavehorn internationally?

A:Yes. Our website gives you a number of different shipping methods to choose from.

Q:Can the Shockwave Horn damage my Motorcycle or Car wiring?

A:No. The Shockwavehorn system takes its power directly from the battery, that way the wiring in your motorcycle or car is not doing any extra work at all. This solves the issues some people have experienced when fitting competitors horns to motorcycles and cars in the past.

Q:What is the return policy?

A:If the product is broken upon arrival or damaged in shipping Screaming Banshee will replace the broken component(s) after the customer has returned the broken component(s) to Screaming Banshee. The customer is responsible for paying the shipping to return the broken component(s) and Screaming Banshee will pay the shipping to get the replacement to the customer if they are located in the lower 48 US States. If the customer can't get the product to work Installation support will be provided. Please contact us for technical support. If the product is faulty it will be covered by the warranty.

Q:Is there a warranty on the Shockwave?

A:Yes. We offer a 1 year manufacturer's warranty on the Shockwave horn. This covers normal wear and tear as well as any manufacturing defects. Additionally, we offer an extended warranty that will cover normal wear and tear for 2 years. The customer is responsible for shipping the unit back to us for warranty replacement and Screaming Banshee will pay to ship the unit back to the customer if they are located in the lower 48 US States. Please contact us before sending your unit back for warranty replacement.

Q:Will the Shockwave Horn system drain my battery if the bike is in storage?

A:No. We designed the Shockwavehorn system to not draw power from your battery at all while the bike is garaged. No one likes a flat battery! Actually, even when you are riding the bike the control unit draws no electricity until the horn button is pressed, then it sends power from the battery directly to the Shockwave Horn and the headlight high beam.

Q:My bike has a HID headlight; will the Shockwave Horn still work with it?

A:Yes. HID lights take a few seconds to warm up so they can't be flashed rapidly like a normal bulb. The way manufacturers get around this is to have just one HID bulb and use a small solenoid to alter the angle of the beam from Low to High. For these systems the light can instantly change from low to high without the HID system having to "warm up" as the Low beam is already on at all times. The Shockwave’s yellow wire simply connects to the high beam solenoid and then will work perfectly. Some vehicles have a HID for the Low beam and a conventional Quartz bulb for the High beam. In this case the Shockwave system connects to the High beam wire as usual.

Q:My bike has a LED headlight; will the Shockwave Horn still work with it?

A:Yes. LED headlights can be set up in 2 ways as shown below. It will work perfectly with both systems; 1) Often vehicles with LED headlight(s) have just one LED bulb, and use a small solenoid to alter the angle of the beam from Low to High. For these systems the Screaming Banshee system (yellow wire) simply connects to the High beam wire that goes to the solenoid, and then it will work perfectly. 2) Some vehicles have 2 LED headlights, one for Low beam and anther light for the High beam. In this case the Screaming Banshee system (yellow wire) connects to the High beam wire as usual.

Q:Will it work on Motorcycles and Cars with CANBUS systems?

A:Yes. The Shockwave has no issues with CANBUS, or any electrical system for that matter. Regarding bikes and cars with CANBUS and sensitive electronics, our system has been designed to not draw or back feed electricity into the vehicle horn electrics at all. Also, we have the included protection in the Shockwavehorn’s control circuit to guard against spikes from the air horn compressor. The control circuit draws its power directly from the battery which is about 25 amps when the air horn is on. Because it's directly from the battery, it places no loads on the vehicle wiring and will not trigger an error / fault code.
